The Santa Lucia Middle School boys basketball team showed talent and skill by winning a tournament in Cayucos Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11. On Friday night, the Warriors defeated the Cayucos “B” team and then Saturday the Warriors dominated Coastal Christian, 47-28.

That put Santa Lucia Middle School student athletes into the championship game against Trinity Lutheran Saturday afternoon, and the Warriors came out on top, 45-37. Jackson Willhite was given the Most Valuable Player Award for the tournament.

According to head coach Ayen Johnson, “It was an exciting tournament and the boys played hard.”

The Warriors play at home against Los Osos Middle School with games set to start at both 4 and 5 p.m. today, Jan. 16.

The Warriors are at home again against St. Patrick’s at 4 and 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The Santa Lucia “A” team is 7-6 this season.
