Prep Roundup: Atascadero cruises to wrestling win over Arroyo Grande

Coast Union, Shandon win boys basketball games

The Atascadero High wrestling team raced out to a 42-0 lead and got five pins to top Arroyo Grande, 60-16, Tuesday in its first PAC 7 dual of the season.

Nick Ducasse (160 pounds), Ryan Lombardi (170), Jordan Council (220), Tyler West (heavyweight) and Nathan Hendrickson (152) all recorded falls for the Greyhounds (12-3).

Eric Perez (113) and Evan Johnston (145) registered pins for the Eagles.

Santa Maria 56, Morro Bay 15

Morro Bay’s Chris Maez (182 pounds) pinned his opponent in 17 seconds. 

Trajan Beecham (160) also won for the Pirates (0-2 Los Padres League), pinning his opponent in the second period. 

Joe Morris earned a 6-5 decision at 112 pounds. 

BOYS BASKETBALL 

Shandon 66, Cuyama Valley 57

The Outlaws came back from a 10-point deficit at halftime to beat the Bears.

Cicero Goddard led Shandon (6-5, 2-1 Coast Valley League) with 37 points and nine rebounds. 

Beige Grassotti added 12 points, and Roberto Rodriguez scored six, including a 3-pointer with two minutes remaining.  

Coast Union 64, Orcutt Academy 45

The Broncos went on an 18-3 run to close out the game against the Spartans. 

Angel Avina led Coast Union (9-7) in scoring with 19 points. 

Gehrig Kniffen added 14 points, and Quinten Raethke scored 11.   

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Valley Christian 69, Coastal Christian 10

Roni Garrison led the Conquerors (1-9, 0-3 CVL) with six points and 11 rebounds. 

Amy Arnold had eight rebounds and the other four  Coastal Christian points.

Cuyama Valley 32, Shandon 27

The Outlaws outscored the Bears 14-6 in the third quarter to get within two points, but fell short. 

Andrea Lopez scored 10 points for Shandon (2-6, 0-3 CVL). 

BOYS SOCCER 

Nipomo 3, Coast Union 0

Mike Arevalo netted all three of the Titans’ goals against the Broncos (4-10). 

Johann Ayala made six saves for Nipomo (5-12).

GIRLS SOCCER 

Templeton 3, Lompoc 1

Courtney Elterman scored two goals in the Eagles’ victory over the Braves. 

Rachel Foley assisted one of Elterman’s goals before netting one of her own for Templeton (4-11, 2-3 LPL). 

Nipomo 4, Coast Union 1 

Vanessa Avila accounted for three of the Titans’ goals, scoring twice and assisting Lauren Iliff’s tally. 

Yocelyn Lopez (three saves) and Julisa Soto (two) split time at keeper for Nipomo (6-7-2).

Cristina Plasencia scored the only goal for Coast Union (4-10).

GIRLS WATER POLO

Paso Robles 16, Pioneer Valley 1

Laileha Vermy and Shannon Rees both scored four goals for the Bearcats (5-9, 2-2 PAC 7).  

Lauren Sowerby (three goals) and Lauren Reed (two) also tallied multiple scores.  

Atascadero 14, St. Joseph 9

Kylie Ferree and Emma Seitzer both scored four goals to lead the Greyhounds (9-5, 1-1 PAC 7). 

Courtney McCarthy tallied three goals, Emily Ferree had two, and Mika Williams scored once for  Atascadero.

Lauren Giggy and Riley Brown split time in net, making seven and four saves, respectively.

Arroyo Grande 12, Righetti 3

Rebekah Hernandez, Sara Wabby, Melanie Popovich, and Isabella Manuele all scored twice for the Eagles (11-5, 4-0 PAC 7).

Alana Benson made 12 saves in net.
