Nipomo bicyclist hit by truck; alleged driver arrested after leaving scene

A bicyclist suffered major head injuries and the alleged motorist is in jail following a hit-and-run in Nipomo on Friday morning.

At approximately 10:23 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received a report of a bicyclist down and a white truck leaving the scene near the corner of Orchard Road and Grande Avenue, west of Highway 101, in Nipomo.

According to a spokesperson for the CHP, the alleged victim suffered major head injuries and was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo. As of press time, the alleged victim’s condition was not known.

Officers located the truck in Arroyo Grande at approximately 12:40 p.m. and arrested Everett James Thomas, 27, on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in injury and providing false information to an officer. The truck was impounded as evidence, and Thomas was booked into County Jail on $50,000 bail, according to the jail website.
