Back off on the Paso events

Paso RoblesJanuary 8, 2014

In regard to the Paso Robles Downtown Main Street Association: There already are complaints about parking issues in the downtown, and there was yet another event on Dec. 31 in the park, where all the parking is taken away.

These events might have been needed when the downtown consisted of antique malls and small shops that closed at 5 p.m., but now it is a foodie scene with restaurants already fighting for those spots. Not only that, they are bringing in food trucks to feed the people attending the event so the restaurants will not only have to compete for parking, but also with other food vendors for guests.

The simple fact of the matter is if this group really wanted to make the downtown better, it would back off on these events, and let the downtown flourish. That is what this association was started to do. I do tip my hat to the group for bringing the downtown back, but it is like a bike with training wheels — at some point you need to take them off, let go, sit back and watch what you have created.
