Letter to the Editor

Two celebrated actors

San Luis ObispoJanuary 3, 2014

In response to Mr. Roberts’ letter regarding my assertion of gender bias by The Tribune: You missed the main point.

Even if I agree that Peter O’Toole was equal in acting skill to Joan Fontaine, the fact is The Tribune gave O’Toole 10 times as much ink as Fontaine. She also starred in iconic films such as “Rebecca,” “Suspicion” and many others during a career that spanned over 50 years. Perhaps it was she who helped launch Hitchcock’s success.

In any case, you fail to address why The Tribune didn’t provide equal coverage of these two celebrated actors when they both died on the same day. I continue to believe the reason for this is gender bias.

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
