After playing a rugged preseason with losses to big schools including Paso Robles, Atascadero and St. Joseph — and a 1-0 nail-biter loss to rival Mission Prep — there is joy in Mudville.

The Lady Broncos enjoyed their first victory after defeating Farmersville 4-3 on Dec. 21.

The team is very young this season, said coach Tamara Corbet.

It has just four seniors, three juniors, five sophomores and 11 freshman.

The next game is Friday at the Santa Maria High School Holiday Tournament.

The Lady Broncos return home at 4 p.m. Jan. 7 against Lompoc.
