Panga boat spotted north of Piedras Blancas lighthouse

UPDATE: According to a news release by the county Sheriff's Office, the panga boat was in the process of being unloaded when deputies and officers with State Parks and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Some narcotics were left behind.

ORIGINAL STORY (6:31 p.m.): Sheriff’s deputies were responding Monday evening to a report of a drug-smuggling panga boat being unloaded at the beach north of the Piedras Blancas Light Station near San Simeon.

A watch commander with the county Sheriff’s Office confirmed there was a panga boat on the beach.

However, it has not yet been determined if there are any drugs on the beach. No arrests have been made.

An anonymous call reporting a panga boat was made around 5 p.m. Monday, the watch commander said.
