Cuesta men's basketball team downs Butte in third-place game at San Joaquin Delta tourney

Alex Igual scored 20 points to lead Cuesta College’s men’s basketball team to a 79-72 overtime victory over Butte in the third-place game of the San Joaquin Delta tourney Sunday in Stockton.

Igual banked in a long 3-pointer as time expired in regulation to tie the score at 69 and force overtime.

Oscar Pedroso scored 17 points for Cuesta, which improved to 8-6 overall. Brett Hartshorne added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars.

Cuesta played without starting power forward Kyle Geer, who suffered an ankle sprain during Saturday night’s 86-77 semifinal loss to Sierra, but Tayler Thompson stepped up in Geer’s place with seven points and 12 rebounds.

Cal Poly wrestler Lotito third at Reno event

Cal Poly sophomore wrestler Devon Lotito took third place at 133 pounds Sunday at the Reno (Nev.) Tournament of Champions.

Lotito went 5-1 in the tournament to improve to 9-5 on the season. He reached the semifinals with a technical fall and two decisions before losing a 9-0 major decision to Nick Soto of Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Also for Cal Poly, Blake Kastl (149) went 5-2, Kyle Chené (149) was 4-2, and Victor Trujillo (133), Colt Shorts (141) and heavyweight Spencer Empey each went 3-2.
