A spaghetti dinner benefit event has been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 15, to raise funds that will help with the medical expenses of Coast Union High School teacher and volleyball coach Pam Kenyon. The spaghetti dinner — at $10 per meal — will be served at the Cambria Veterans Memorial Building from 4 to 7 p.m.
Along with the spaghetti dinner, including salad and garlic bread, local singer/songwriter Jill Knight will entertain guests.
Event organizer Shannon Jackson, an assistant basketball coach and librarian at Coast Union, said “We can’t fight this for her, but if we all work together we can help alleviate stress.”
Jackson also said that easing “some financial burdens” for Kenyon will help her as she battles colon cancer.
Kenyon’s sister Roche Nystrom, the volleyball coach at Cuesta College, said Pam started chemotherapy on Dec. 9 and is on a “three week cycle with that program.” Nystrom said her sister received “good news” Saturday, Dec. 14, when doctors told her that the “PET scan shows that cancer has not moved to her lungs or liver.”
That was “a really good report,” and even though the chemo is “making her sick…she is a trouper,” Nystrom explained in a phone interview.
