SLCUSD board member joins state School Boards Association

Chris Ungar, a board member with the San Luis Coastal Unified School District, is the new vice president of the California School Boards Association.

Ungar has represented Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo and Santa Cruz counties on the association’s board of directors since 2007.

Ungar is the special education director for the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education and has served on the San Luis Coastal school district’s board of directors since 2000. During his tenure, he has been board president 2002-03, 2006-07 and 2011-12

Ungar’s areas of interest include special education, vocational education, technology, school finance and revenue enhancement, educational leadership, student diversity and fine arts.

He also has served on the boards of directors of the Tri-Counties Education Association and the San Luis Obispo County School Boards Association and is a director of Project Surf Camp, an organization that teaches children with disabilities to surf.

Ungar and his wife, Elyse, a special education teacher, live in Los Osos and have a son, Casey.
