The Bluff Trail at Montaña de Oro will undergo renovations to make the 2-mile trail compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

State Parks will stop work on the popular Bluff Trail in Montaña de Oro State Park and allow full public access for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Work will be halted and the trail fully open from Dec. 21 through Jan. 5, said Ranger Rob Colligan in a news release.

Extensive work began on the trail Nov. 18 to improve accessibility to the disabled. Good progress is being made. To date, the north loop of the Bluff Trail has been re-contoured and an improved surface installed. Preliminary brush clearing of the south loop has also been completed.

When work resumes on Jan. 6, the south loop will be closed to allow access to the area for construction equipment. Other closures will be posted on the bulletin boards at the Spooner Ranch house and Bluff Trail head.

“The project is ahead of schedule, and we look forward to project completion, re-vegetation of the disturbed areas and reopening the entire trail in the fall of 2014,” Colligan said.
