Lawson named most valuable Bronco cross country runner

Special to The CambrianDecember 19, 2013

The Most Valuable Player award for the Coast Union cross country team was given to freshman Jez Lawson, who finished seventh overall among all freshman runners in the county and made the All-San Luis Obispo County high school team.

Lawson “exemplified determination and perseverance,” said coach Ayen Johnson, and he finished in first place in a dual meet with Mission Prep.

The Most Improved runner this year was Jose Ramirez, who came out for cross country late but “made an immediate impact in practice during interval training,” Johnson explained. Ramirez was dedicated and obviously loved running because he finished “all his races with a smile,” said Johnson.

The Coach’s Award was given to Tara Covell, due to her “amazing dedication to the sport. She always gave her best in practice or in a meet,” Johnson pointed out. Her “positive attitude always kept the team in good spirits.”
