Clothing retailer Wet Seal, which caters to young women, will open a store in downtown San Luis Obispo this Sunday.

The store takes over the spot at 974 Monterey St. in San Luis Obispo vacated by skateboard fashion retailer Coalition in March.

Construction began on the 2,600-square-foot space about two months ago, store manager Ashley Turner said, but setting up and arranging merchandise began Thursday.

“We’ve got a lot to do to finish setting up in two days,” Turner said Thursday.

The clothing store originally planned to open earlier, Turner said, and they may still do a soft opening on Saturday, but it will definitely be open at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Though most of the hiring for the business is complete, they are still seeking about 10 more sales associates, Turner said.

Wet Seal Inc. operates more than 470 Wet Seal stores throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, according to its website. Net sales for the third quarter ended Nov. 2 were $127.7 million, compared to $135.5 million in the year-earlier period, the company reported. It also reported a net loss totaling $14.9 million, compared to net loss of $14.8 million in the year-earlier quarter.
