Prep Roundup: Templeton downs Mission Prep in girls basketball

Nipomo also wins at the girls Perry Ford Invitational

Mari Stewart had 21 points and 16 rebounds and was 9 for 10 from the free-throw line to lead the Templeton High girls basketball team to a 55-45 win over Mission Prep on Wednesday night at the Perry Ford Invitational, hosted by Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo.

Marissa Torres had nine points, and Autumn Russell had four assists and four steals for Templeton (3-0). Briana Belmonte had 10 points, and Paige O’Sullivan had 10 points and three steals.

Noelle Laird, Carly Colvin and Tess Boehm all had nine points to lead Mission Prep (2-3). Taylor Neal had seven points and seven rebounds, five of which were offensive rebounds. The Royals committed 28 turnovers.

Mission Prep next plays today at 6 p.m. against Ridgeview, and Templeton plays Arroyo Grande on Friday at 5 p.m.

Nipomo 32, Paso Robles 28

The Titans held off the Bearcats behind 12 points from Mercedes Rodriguez in the game played at San Luis Obispo.

Karina Herrera and Taylor Nevitt each had five points for Nipomo (2-3), which outscored Paso Robles 12-4 in the second quarter.

Kailey Warren had 11 points for the Bearcats (0-4). Paso Robles was 1 for  from the free-throw line, and Nipomo was 6 for 18.

Garces 46, Arroyo Grande 25

Ashlyn Herlihy had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (2-4). Alaina Hogeboom had five points and seven rebounds.

Arroyo Grande next plays in the Perry Ford Invitational at 3:30 p.m. today against Frontier.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Tulare Western 56, Morro Bay 38

Playing with just seven players, the Pirates lost at the Corcoran Invitational. Several players were sick or chose not to miss classes for the tournament.

Justin Limon led the Pirates with 10 points, and Solomon Ruddell had seven points for Morro Bay (0-7).

After being shut out in the first quarter, the were within seven at halftime, but were outscored 24-7 in the third quarter.

GIRLS WATER POLO

Cabrillo 18, San Luis Obispo 6

Monica Tietje had two goals, but the Tigers lost at home. 

Shelby Faccinto, Julia Donath, Anna Lippold and Emily Lovato all scored one goal for San Luis Obispo (2-1).

BOYS SOCCER

Santa Barbara 4, Arroyo Grande 1

Juan Jazo scored in the fifth minute, but that would be the only scoring for the Eagles (3-1).

The score was tied 1-1 at halftime, but Santa Barbara scored three times in a span of five minutes midway through the second half to break the game open.

Danny Montero had three saves for Arroyo Grande.

WRESTLING

Morro Bay 36, San Luis Obispo 33

The Pirates had six pins to beat the Tigers in their first dual of the season.

Joe Morris (112), Richard Beecham, Jordan Liberatore (182), Cameron Woods (195) and 

Chris Maez (220) all won by fall.

Paso Robles beats Cabrillo by forfeit

The Bearcats won the nonleague dual as Cabrillo forfeited.
