A homicide victim found in September in a drainage ditch in Nipomo was identified as a 26-year-old man from Guerrero, Mexico, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said.

Silvestre Montalban Lopez was identified using fingerprints the Sheriff’s Office received through the Mexican Consulate, according to a news release.

The body was found Sept. 17 in a ditch between two fields in Nipomo, and police later determined that the man had been a victim of homicide. The investigation revealed that the incident occurred in Santa Barbara County, so the investigation has been turned over to the Santa Maria Police Department.
