Water bankruptcy

AtascaderoDecember 10, 2013

Phil Dirkx (Bankruptcy is dangerous, Dec. 6) gives us excellent information on the water crisis in the North County. Reading it eased my mind about the inevitable future conflicts. His suggestion that meters should be used to identify the users of this large groundwater basin will make it clear who is getting what. There will be no arguments wasting time on that issue in the future.

Next, his analogy to bankruptcy has its merits. Withdrawing more money from your bank account without making deposits will bankrupt you. Withdrawing more water than nature can replace will also bankrupt you. What’s left is awater district to regulate fair share regulations where everyone is treated equally. What a concept.
