A fire that started in the living room of a home in the 1800 block of Beach Street in Oceano caused extensive damage before firefighters extinguished it Thursday, a news release from the Five Cities Fire Authority said.

Just before 4 p.m., firefighters responded to a call of a fire in a house with three adults and three children inside. Firefighters from one engine company began fighting the fire while another engine company searched the home for the occupants. After accounting for the adults, they continued to search the burning house for the children until finally learning that the youngsters were unharmed at the home of a friend nearby, the release said.

A third crew of firefighters climbed onto the roof to cut ventilation holes and to check for the structural stability of the house. The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes, the release said.

Investigators were still determining the cause of the fire Thursday evening.

The release said that a possibly related incident occurred at the nearby Oceano Boys and Girls Club, which experienced “an electrical anomaly” at the time of the house fire, the release said.

PG&E was investigating that situation.
