Kevin Patrick Sullivan and Patti Sullivan’s partnership was born in poetry. They met at the 15th San Luis Obispo Poetry Festival and together have been at the heart of the SLO poetry scene ever since. Kevin founded and hosts the Corners of the Mouth and Poetry at the Steynberg poetry reading series and is a past Poet Laureate of San Luis Obispo.

His work has been published in three books: “First Sight,” “The Space Between Things,” and “Under Such Brilliance,” as well as several chapbooks and literary magazines.

Patti Sullivan’s poems are in Solo Novo, Café Solo, Artlife, Askew, Hummingbird and her chapbook “For The Day.” She is also a visual artist.

“Seeing how Kevin works on his poems has taught me a great deal about the idea of reaching your audience,” says Patti, “and the importance of telling the story in a way that is straightforward.”

The two poets sometimes write on the same subject, and they will be reading some of these companion pieces at Poets & Storytellers at the Wise Owl at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, when they share the spotlight as featured poets at the monthly event.

The public is invited to participate in the open reading that follows with poems, stories or other spoken word performances of up to five minutes each.

The Wise Owl Bookstore Cafe is at 2164 Main St. in East Village and is a 21-and-over venue.
