New iFixit headquarters under construction in SLO

kleslie@thetribunenews.comDecember 3, 2013

Construction is well underway for the new “employee-friendly” headquarters of San Luis Obispo tech company, iFixit, but chief executive officer Kyle Wiens is staying tight-lipped about the Monterey Street project until it is closer to completion.

The company purchased the building at 1330 Monterey St., the former site of Cole Motors and SLO Vespa, in March because of its central location between Cal Poly and downtown, Wiens said.

Among other renovations, builders are adding a second floor with decks, increasing the building’s square footage to slightly more than 17,000 square feet.

Wiens is keeping the details on the construction largely under wraps for now, saying because of his background in the software industry, he prefers to “keep things quiet until we know we can deliver.”
