A woman hiking with relatives on Cerro San Luis mountain got an assist from the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department when she injured herself on Saturday afternoon.

The woman, 48, slipped and hurt her ankle so that she was unable to walk while hiking along the Lemon Grove Loop Trail, fire Capt. Greg Logan said.

Two engine companies responded to a call for assistance and used a 4-wheel drive vehicle to bring the woman down from the trail to the parking lot at Fernandez Lane.

An ambulance was available to take her to a hospital but the woman’s family elected to drive her, Logan said.
