Arroyo Grande man accused of pistol-whipping roommate is found dead

SWAT team tear-gassed his house, found him in bedroom

An Arroyo Grande man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon after police officers attempted to serve a search warrant at his home, the Arroyo Grande Police Department said in a media release.

Grant Steven Cole, 52, used a handgun to strike his roommate several times, the roommate reported to police about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Detectives obtained a search warrant and, supported by the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT Team and county Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Detail, attempted to serve the warrant at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday, according to the release.

The sheriff’s detail shot tear gas into the residence before the SWAT team entered. Cole was found in a bedroom of his home in the 300 block of Creekview Court.

The case remains under investigation.
