Cal Poly’s Alex Hubbard has been named the Big Sky Conference co-special teams player of the week after returning a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown in Saturday’s 42-14 win at Northern Colorado.

Hubbard also had an interception in the season-finale victory for the Mustangs (6-6, 5-3 Big Sky).

Hubbard had the first kickoff return for a touchdown since Oct. 12, 2002, when Darrell Jones returned a kickoff for a touchdown against Southern Utah.

Schlemer wins Big West honor

Cal Poly center Molly Schlemer has been named the Big West Conference women’s basketball player of the week after the Mustangs (2-4) went 2-1 last week.

Schlemer had 28 points and 17 rebounds in a win over New Mexico State, tallied 15 points and nine rebounds in a win over Nevada and added nine points and eight rebounds in a loss at St. Mary’s.

Cal Poly signs six softball players

The Cal Poly softball team has announced the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent.

The six players are right-handed pitcher Lindsey Chalmers (San Ramon, California High), shortstop Chelsea Convissar (Sunnyvale, Homestead High), infielder Alejandra Garcia (Sacramento, St. Francis High), right-handed pitcher Stephanie Hayward (Sacramento, McClatchy High), catcher Susanne Morris (San Diego, Scripps Ranch High) and outfielder Amanda Sandoval (Norco, Norco High).
