CUHS teacher, coach Kenyon battling cancer

Special to The CambrianNovember 22, 2013

Longtime and highly successful Coast Union volleyball coach and science teacher Pam Kenyon has been diagnosed with colon cancer, according to her sister, Roche Nystrom, a volleyball coach at Cuesta Community College.

Nystrom explained that the doctors don’t know for sure if the cancer is in stage three or four, but thus far the disease has not spread to Kenyon’s lungs or liver, Nystrom reported.
Pam has already undergone surgery, Nystrom said. Kenyon’s family has not had any experiences with colon cancer before, Nystrom went on, “so this is new to our family.”

On Tuesday, Nov. 20, Kenyon was taken to UCLA Medical Center where a doctor who specializes in colon cancer examined her, Nystrom continued.

Community members interested in helping defray the medical costs to Kenyon may deposit contributions in the Heritage Oaks Bank in Cambria; there is an account in the name of Pam Kenyon.
