Just before the start of its meeting Tuesday, the Morro Bay City Council canceled a closed session to discuss and possibly terminate City Manager Andrea Lueker’s employment.

The item about Lueker had been legally noticed, but the council was not prepared to take action, Mayor Jamie Irons said. He said he did not know when the item would be rescheduled and would not elaborate on why the session was canceled.

A week ago, the council voted to have special counsel Steven Simas begin negotiating with Lueker to terminate her contract. At the same meeting, the council voted to approve a severance package for City Attorney Robert Schultz.

A majority of the council had been pushing to fire Schultz and Lueker for unnamed reasons for two months. Under the terms of Schultz’s severance agreement, however, his departure was handled as a resignation. His last day with the city was Friday.
