Lone Madrone winery plans to move cider production to Atascadero

Paso Robles winery Lone Madrone is seeking to open a production facility and tasting room in Atascadero for its hard apple cider brand, Bristols.

A retail area and small patio are also part of the vision for a 2,500-square-foot commercial building at 3220 El Camino Real, near Joebella Coffee Roasters.

Lone Madrone owner Neil Collins made his first batch of hard cider in 1994, but since 2012, yearly production has grown from about 900 gallons to 2,500. Bristols has been using Lone Madrone winery equipment and renting space at other wineries to produce its five varieties of hard cider.

According to an Atascadero staff report on the proposal, the project is consistent with the city’s general plan and appears to meet the requirements of a conditional use permit.

The Atascadero Planning Commission is scheduled to discuss granting the permit at Tuesday’s 7 p.m. meeting in the City Administration Building at 6500 Palma Ave.
