Coast Union football team advances in playoffs

The Coast Union High football team dominated Laguna Blanca 47-20 Friday night in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 8-man playoffs.  

Coast Union (10-1) sacked the Laguna Blanca quarterback seven times, and on offense, quarterback Angel Avina threw for two touchdowns, rushed for four and accounted for 

360 of the Broncos’ 540 yards of total offense. 

Avina finished 10 of 14 for 130 passing yards and he ran for 230 yards. 

Avina’s two touchdown strikes went to Emmany Godinez, who caught six passes for 62 yards. Lane Sutherland rushed for 135 yards on 19 carries and scored one touchdown for the Broncos. 

On defense, Danny Rodriguez had a fumble recovery, six tackles and a sack.

Grant Magnuson also recorded six tackles and one sack for the Broncos, and Quinten Raethke had two sacks and three tackles. Oscar Catalon had one interception. 

Laguna Blanca beat Coast Union 50-48 during the regular season, and with Mojave losing to Avalon, the Broncos are the highest seed still alive in the playoffs.
