Coast Union wins CIF playoff game, to play at home again Friday

Special to The CambrianNovember 14, 2013

A dominating win against Concordia last Friday gives the Broncos a chance to take on the Laguna Blanca Owls — the only team to beat Coast Union this season — in round two of the CIF Southern Section playoffs. The second playoff game will begin at Coast Union at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15.

In that loss to Laguna Blanca, the Bronco quarterback had the ball stripped from his arms twice inside the 5-yard line and again in the closing seconds, allowing the Owls to eke out a 50-48 win.

Subsequently, the Broncos have defeated Thacher 42-34 and Thacher defeated Laguna Blanca, 76-56; Coast Union also handled Cate, 55-34, but the Owls were beaten by Cate, 63-26. So on paper it would appear that the Broncos have the edge going in, but beyond that edge is a strong desire on the part of Coast Union to get some payback and settle a score against the Owls.

The game will be broadcast on KTEA-FM (103.5) and streams live on
