Wondering what to do with that crummy old computer? That clunky cell phone? That hopelessly outdated fax machine?

Atascadero High School’s Greybots robotics team is holding a free e-waste collection drive Saturday for local residents and businesses seeking to dispose of unwanted electronic devices. They’ll turn the items into cash to support the team.

The Greybots need to raise $60,000 in order to compete in regional and competitions organized by the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) organization. The students were on the winning alliance at the 2011 FIRST World Championship and have competed at the championship level four of the past five years.

Saturday’s collection drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, at the Atascadero High School lower parking lot at Atascadero Avenue and West Mall.

Among the items being accepted are televisions, computer monitors, printers, MP3 players, cameras and video game consoles. A full list of accepted electronics can be found on the team’s website, www.greybots.com.
