Local biodiesel club to collect used cooking oil after Thanksgiving

The Morro Bay AmBio Club, which aims to open access to sustainable biodiesel, will accept used cooking oil the day after Thanksgiving as part of its annual recycling event.

The club will hold its Fourth Annual After Thanksgiving Used Cooking Oil to Biodiesel Recycling Event on Nov. 30 from noon to 3 p.m. at Morin Brothers in San Luis Obispo and Pacific Auto Service in Los Osos.

The club asks that donors bring their used cooking oil in a sturdy container from which the oil can easily be poured into a barrel. Pieces of food in the oil are OK.

AmBio club members will be on hand at both locations to answer questions about sustainable biodiesel.

The collected cooking oil will be picked up by a licensed vendor and taken to a commercial biodiesel production facility to be turned into a clean-burning alternative fuel, according to a club news release.
