Cuesta men's basketball team rallies to win consolation title

Cougars win consolation final in own Rabobank event with 61-49 victory over College of Sequoias

Brett Hartshorne had 21 points and nine rebounds, Oscar Pedroso supplied 19 points and four assists, and Cuesta College’s men’s basketball team rallied for a 61-49 home win over College of the Sequoias in the consolation final of the 45th Rabobank Basketball Tournament on Sunday.

Pedroso, a sophomore swingman, was named to the all-tournament team.

“We seemed to have a very good game plan today,” Cuesta head coach Rusty Blair said. “We played 2-3 zone, our conditioning was good and we basically controlled the tempo.”

Alex Igual had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars (2-1), and Kyle Geer contributed 10 points and six assists.

Cuesta overcame a 34-26 halftime deficit and committed only eight turnovers in the game.

The tournament title went to West Hills, which downed Allan Hancock 84-76 in the final.
