Christopher Barnickel is the county’s new library director.

The Board of Supervisors announced his hiring after a closed-session meeting Thursday. He replaces Brian Reynolds, who retired in October.

Barnickel had been assistant library director since February. Before that, he was assistant director for the Kansas City Public Library. He holds a master’s degree in library science from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

“I look forward to working with the community, staff and stakeholders to develop our library’s strengths while pursuing new avenues of engagement for the community at large,” Barnickel said in a news release. “Public libraries enrich communities they serve by providing lifelong learning, entertainment and a welcoming environment in which to gather.”
