Arroyo Grande also wins in the first round of the Division 3 girls tennis playoffs

San Luis Obispo High’s Maya O’Brien swept her three singles matches in the Tigers’ win over San Gabriel.

The San Luis Obispo High girls tennis team beat San Gabriel 13-5 in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs at San Luis Obispo on Wednesday afternoon.

Maya O’Brien swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-2 for the Tigers (16-5). The doubles team of Annaliese Lippold and Ivee Collins won 6-0, 6-3, 6-2. Fiona Huffaker won her two sets 7-6 (7-0), 6-0, and Sophia Moreno won her two sets 6-0, 6-0.

San Luis Obispo plays the winner of Paramount and Martin Luther King on Friday.

Arroyo Grande 12,Oak Park 6

Sophie Whittle swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-2 and Lauren Hayashi swept 6-0, 6-0, 7-5, as the Eagles advanced to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs.

Singles player Melina Rodgers and the doubles team of Joanne Phung and Angelica Gagliano each won two out of three sets for Arroyo Grande (17-1). 

The Eagles next play at Marymount on Friday at 2 p.m. after Marymount beat Mark Keppel 11-7.

PAC 7 Tournament

Arroyo Grande advanced to the semifinals against San Luis Obispo (17-9) after beating Pioneer Valley 17-2 and Atascadero 18-5 at Atascadero. 

Hissam el-Effendi led the Eagles (18-5) with seven goals in the two games. 

Jack Empey had six goals, and Ryan Sverchek had five goals. Clint Doucette made 14 saves, and Ronan Paulsen had nine saves. 

Arroyo Grande will play San Luis Obispo at 3:20 p.m. Friday at Arroyo Grande.

Atascadero plays Righetti in the other semifinal at Arroyo Grande on Friday at 2:10 p.m. 

Dylan Linnenkamp scored four goals for the Greyhounds in a 10-9 win over St. Joseph. Dylan Hughes had three goals, Blake Archibald had two goals, and Jack Fisher and Nathan Hendrickson each had one goal. James Fisher had five saves.

In the other games, San Luis Obispo beat Paso Robles 12-3 and lost to Righetti 16-0. Righetti beat Paso Robles 18-3, and St. Joseph beat Pioneer Valley 12-7.
