Weather forecast for the week of Nov. 4

November 4, 2013

Here is this week’s forecast by PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey.

Weather report

Transitory areas of high pressure will continue to move over the West (normal for this time of the year) over the next week. We will see a couple of Santa Lucia (offshore) wind events with warm afternoon conditions, cold North County mornings and mostly clear skies with low relative humidity levels.

One such event will develop Tuesday and Wednesday, with a second Santa Lucia this weekend. In these cases, Santa Lucias should be preceded by a northwester that will produce marine low clouds along the coast north of Point Conception. The next northwesterly wind event will develop Thursday through Friday.

There is a chance for a switch in the weather pattern, leading to stormy conditions by Nov. 11-12. The longer-range models are hinting of moderate rain with low elevation mountain snow.

Surf report

Today’s 7- to 9-foot northwesterly (300-degree deep-water) swell (with an 8- to 11-second period) will continue tonight.

A 6- to 8-foot northwesterly (300-degree deepwater) swell (with an 11- to 18-second) will arrive Tuesday and will decrease to 4 to 6 feet (with an 11- to 15-second period) by Wednesday.

Another round of increasing northwesterly winds will produce a 3- to 5-foot northwesterly (310-degree deep-water) sea and swell (with a 5- to 17-second period) Thursday and will remain at this height but with a gradually shorter period through Friday.

A 4- to 6-foot northwesterly (300-degree deepwater) swell (with an 8- to 11-second period) will arrive this weekend.

Seawater temperatures

Seawater temperatures will range between 55 and 58 degrees through Friday.
