Templeton, Nipomo football teams drop LPL contests

The Templeton High football team lost 30-21 to Santa Ynez on Friday.

Despite a 23-7 halftime deficit, the Templeton (1-8, 1-4 Los Padres League) players “showed more heart than they had all season,” according to coach Dan Loney, when they came out for the second half.

Clawing back on the strength of a defense that yielded only 201 yards, Templeton put forth an admirable surge punctuated by touchdown runs from Garrett Morrison and Bryson Messer, coming within two points late in the fourth quarter. A late 75-yard touchdown drive from Santa Ynez ended the Eagles’ comeback hopes.

Quarterback Matt Albright threw for four touchdowns, two in each half, for the Titans (4-5, 3-2 LPL) in their loss to the Braves, who led 63-14 at halftime.
