The Atascadero High girls volleyball defeated Righetti 3-0 on Wednesday in a PAC 7 matchup of two teams tied for second place entering the match.
The Greyhounds (19-11, 8-3) posted a 25-16, 26-24, 25-23 win over the Warriors (7-4), who are one-half game ahead of San Luis Obispo for third place.
“We shut down their big hitter, and she did not impact the game,” Atascadero coach Trent Lunceford said. “We blocked very well, too. That was probably the biggest key to our victory. We also dug out a lot of balls. ... I thought the girls played great.”
Kendall Featherstone paced the Greyhounds with 14 kills and 16 digs, Kaylie Griffin had nine kills and four blocks, Sabrina Degman had 26 digs, Brooke Harbottle handed out 27 assists and had nine digs, Katherine Sedley tallied seven kills and Maren Cracknell added six kills.
After cruising to the win in the first set, Atascadero won the next two sets after the second set was tied at 24 and the third set was tied at 23.
“We made some clutch plays at the end to win those last two sets,” Lunceford said. “ ... Griffin and Cracknell were instrumental for us in beating them tonight.”
