Letter to the Editor

For self-defense

TempletonOctober 30, 2013

In response to Stew Thomson’s letter of Oct. 7, “Designed to kill”: He says that guns are designed only to kill animals and people.

But he leaves out the most important item: self-defense. Ask any cop, and they will tell you that they cannot defend you 100 percent of the time from people who would do you harm. They cannot defend you even a small percentage of the time. When a robber goes to a 7-Eleven store or breaks down a door to your home intending to rob or harm you, they are long gone by the time an officer even gets the message, much less gets to the crime scene.

I agree that people are killed by nuts every day. Unfortunately, that is the price we pay to live in a free country. Even if every gun was confiscated from every law-abiding citizen, the criminal element would still get guns because they respect no laws. If you are interested in saving lives, more lives would be saved by taking away all cars and trucks, and that is just as dumb as taking away all guns. I am an 80-year-old Korean veteran, and I will keep my guns.
