Prep Roundup: Atascadero all alone in second place in PAC 7 girls volleyball

The Atascadero High girls volleyball team beat St. Joseph 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 25-15 Tuesday night to move into second place in PAC 7 behind Arroyo Grande, which has already clinched the regular season title.

Kendall Featherstone had 20 kills and 26 digs, and Brooke Harbottle had 43 assists, 13 digs, and seven kills for the Greyhounds (16-10, 7-3). Maren Cracknell had 13 kills, Kathryn Sedley had nine kills, and Sabrina Degnan had 24 digs. 

Templeton 3, Cabrillo 0

Autumn Russell had 13 kills and three aces as the Eagles swept 25-15, 25-23, 25-19.

Josi Kelly had 21 assists, seven digs, three kills and three aces for Templeton (14-2, 9-2 Los Padres League). Julie Cates had nine kills and three aces, and Marissa Torres had 21 digs.

Nipomo 3, Santa Maria 0

The Titans swept 25-23, 25-15, 25-17 as Taylor Nevitt had 10 kills, 14 digs and five aces.

Megan Penaflor had 27 assists and two aces, and Gwen Menane had eights kills and two blocks for Nipomo (10-9, 7-3 LPL). Nanna Lemons had four kills and nine digs in her varsity debut as a freshman.

Mission Prep 3, Coastal Christian 0

The Royals swept the Conquerors 25-7, 25-21, 25-14.

Jennifer Laird led Mission Prep (13-3) with seven kills and five aces. Noelle Laird had seven kills 12 digs. 

North County Christian 3, Valley Christian 0

The Crusaders prevailed 25-23, 25-17, 25-16 in a Coast Valley League matchup. 

Hannah Miller had six aces, Aliyah Morrison had 16 kills, Madison Morrison had 14 digs, and Gabrielle Morrison added 23 assists for North County Christian (13-7, 8-2).

Coast Union 3, Maricopa 0 

Itzel Saavedra and Eleri Perryman both had five kills as the Broncos swept the Indians 25-18, 25-5, 25-16. 

The Broncos (9-7, 8-2 CVL) scored 21 points off Eleri Perryman’s serves, including four aces. Makenna Perryman added four kills for the Broncos. 

GIRLS TENNIS

San Luis Obispo 12, Righetti 5

Sophia Moreno swept 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 in singles for the Tigers as they beat the Warriors with one match incomplete because of darkness.

San Luis Obispo  won seven of the nine singles sets as Fiona Huffaker won her sets 6-2, 6-0, and Gabby Garza won two of three sets for the Tigers (15-5, 10-2 PAC 7).

In doubles, Maia Hoffman and Maya O’Brien won two out of three sets.

Cabrillo 15, Morro Bay 3

The only set won in singles for Morro Bay (3-13, 1-11 LPL) came from Tess Badrigian.

The doubles teams of Sarah Keas and Claire Vogel won two out of three for the Pirates.  

Santa Maria 13, Coast Union 5

Melissa Mathieson swept 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 6-1 for the Broncos, but they fell to the Saints. 

The other two Coast Union (4-12) victories came in doubles, one from the team of Yvette Casas and Jackie Chavez and the other from Michelle Campos and Ariel Bruce. 

Orcutt Academy 18, Mission Prep 0

The Spartans shut out the Royals (0-12) at home. 

Santa Ynez 18, Nipomo 0

The Titans (10-18, 4-8 LPL) lost at home.

BOYS WATER POLO

Arroyo Grande 11, San Luis Obispo 7

David Vitt had four goals for the Eagles as they beat the Tigers on the road.

Conner Sandman and Jack Empey had three goals apiece for Arroyo Grande (17-6, 5-1 PAC 7). Hissam el-Essendi had the other goal. 

Clint Doucette made seven saves for the Eagles.

Atascadero 13, Paso Robles 11

Dylan Linnenkamp had five goals as the Greyhounds prevailed in a PAC 7 matchup. 

Atascadero (10-14, 3-3) also got four goals from Dylan Hughes and two from Scott Beraud. Goalie James Fisher had six saves.

Simon Schoennauer had four goals for the Bearcats (12-12, 1-5). Kohl Coffey had three goals and Teryn Steaffans added two more. Gabe Hindley had 13 saves for Paso Robles.
