Intermittent power outages persist in South County

An underground equipment failure left nearly 1,600 PG&E customers in the Five Cities without power Monday, and fixing the problem is causing even more outages today.

At about 8:30 p.m. Monday, the power went out in select areas of Pismo Beach and Arroyo Grande, PG&E spokesperson Blair Jones said. The problem was fixed, and power was restored to all customers by 2:16 a.m., he said.

While restoring power, however, PG&E crews had to temporarily reconfigure the entire system, Jones said.

Crews are currently working to reset the system to its original configuration, which is resulting in smaller power outages throughout the area.

The problem is only temporary, and should stop as soon as the system has been fixed, Jones said.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this causes our customers as we are working on this,” Jones said. “We appreciate your patience as we work to get this solved safely.”
