It is a fact that the Morro Bay city attorney benefited personally from a violation of the Brown Act which allowed the previous lame duck council to increase his severance pay in secret and keep it hidden from the public eye for many months.
Whether the attorney acted willfully to violate the law or was simply ignorant of the transgression is immaterial. As the purported local expert on the Brown Act, either scenario is reason enough for his termination. And I imagine this is just the tip of the iceberg. Mayor Irons and the progressive majority did the right thing when they voted to fire him earlier this (month). Despite threats and intimidation by local bullies, the mayor and two council members had the courage to get things done. This is what true leadership looks like.
