The Cal Poly men’s soccer team scored a late equalizer to salvage a 1-1 draw at home against UC Davis on Tuesday night in San Luis Obispo.
The Aggies (6-7-2, 2-3-1 Big West Conference) took an early lead in the 37th minute when Dashiell MacNamara scored from 10 yards out off an assist from Ian Palmer. Omar Zeenni made six saves in goal.
The score remained 1-0 until Mackenzie Pridham scored his 12th goal of the season in the 86th minute from the left side of the penalty area. Justin Dhillon assisted.
Neither team could score in the sudden-death 30 minutes of overtime. Wade Hamilton made two saves in goal for the Mustangs (9-6-1, 2-3-1).
The Mustangs outshot the Aggies, 20-12. The two teams were tied in fouls in a physical match that resulted in three yellow cards for UC Davis and four for Cal Poly.
Cal Poly at Bill Cullum Invitational
Long Beach State’s Daniel Chian took medalist honors with a 10-under 206 at the conclusion of the Bill Cullum Invitational in Simi Valley, an event won by CSU Fullerton.
Cal Poly finished in a sixth place with a score of 10-over 874. CSU Fullerton had 849, followed by San Diego (850), Arizona State (869), UC Santa Barbara (869) and Pepperdine (871) rounding out the top five.
Camden Price led the Mustangs with a 216, including a 71 in the final round, propelling him from a tie for 30th place after two rounds to a tie for 19th place. Mitchell Martin finished in a tie for 23rd with a 217, and Cole Nygren finished in a tie for 50th with a 218.
Justin De Los Santos finished in a tie for 50th, and Jordan Wright was 80th with a score of 231. Competing as an individual, Brandon Shaw finished in a tie for 93rd with a score of 237.
Jon Rahm of Arizona State finished in a tie for second with CSU Fullerton’s Anguiano with a score of 207. Rahm was the leader after 48 holes, but Chian shot a 66 on the final round.
Mustangs runner Davidson gets award
Cal Poly senior runner Sean Davidson was named Big West Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for the second time this season.
Davidson finished 17th in a field of 359 runners to lead the Mustangs at the Indiana State Pre-National Invitational on Saturday.
His 8K time of 23:47.92 helped Cal Poly to a 12th-place finish in a 52-team field.
