Mustangs tennis players ousted from regional events

Cal Poly’s women’s tennis team saw its remaining competitors eliminated from championship contention in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Sunday hosted by Stanford at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Palo Alto.

In doubles, Cal Poly junior Bryn Bacharach and freshman Emily Gibbens were stopped in the round of 16 by Stanford’s Caroline Doyle and Krista Hardeback, 8-2. Also, Cal Poly seniors Jen Cornea and Ane McPike were beaten by Denise Starr and Zsofia Susanyi of Cal, 8-6.

Mustangs men’s tennis players fall

The two remaining Cal Poly men’s tennis doubles teams were ousted from the round of 16 in the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships on Sunday hosted by Pepperdine in Malibu.

Cal Poly’s Ben Donovan and Matt Thomson lost to the Dennis Mkrtchian and Clay Thompson of UCLA, 8-6.

Also for the Mustangs, Devin Barber and Corey Pang fell to San Diego’s Uros Petronijevic and Andrew Raphaelson, 8-4.
