Coast Union football team rolls to win

Angel Avina led Coast Union on both sides of the ball as the Broncos defeated third-ranked Thacher 42-14 in an 8-man football game Friday night. 

Coast Union (6-1) went into the game four spots behind the Toads in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 poll, at No. 7.

Avina threw four touchdown passes  for the Broncos and intercepted two on defense playing at safety. 

Avina ended up 10-for-16 passing for 202 yards and no interceptions.  

Lane Sutherland caught one of Avina’s touchdown passes and ran for 130 yards on 13 carries. 

Quinten Rathke had five catches for 161 yards, including a 76-yard touchdown reception and a 14-yard touchdown catch. 

Emmany Godinez also had a touchdown reception for 17 yards, and Binh Trieu had a touchdown run of 11 yards.  

The Broncos had 484 yards of total offense and didn’t turn the ball over while forcing five Thacher turnovers.
