Five additional suspects have been arrested for their alleged involvement in transporting drugs on a panga boat found Wednesday in the San Simeon area, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office.

The new arrests bring the total of suspects associated with the drug bust to 23.

Sheriff's deputies located the men in two different places Wednesday after reports came in of the men hiding near the coast. Two of them were found hiding in a Cayucos creek bed while three men were found under the Cayucos Pier, the news release states.

All five suspects are now in custody on suspicion of transportation of marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana for sale and conspiracy.

On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office arrested 18 people and seized 144 bales of marijuana estimated to be worth $2.7 million following a large drug-enforcement operation involving a motor home, two vans, a car and a panga boat. In all, 3,465 pounds of marijuana and 5 grams of methamphetamine were seized.
