The Templeton Fire Department is accepting applications for on-call and intern firefighters through Nov. 5, according to a department news release.

The positions provide training and pay $8 per hour for on-call firefighters and a stipend for interns. Pay per call can often vary depending on each person’s qualifications, fire engineer and volunteer coordinator Tony Broom said. Those interested must be age 18 or older, have a high school diploma or GED, pass a physical ability exam as well as general knowledge test and clear a criminal back ground investigation, among other requirements, the press release states.

The selection process is slated to begin in November.

The small North County department currently has 22 firefighters, two chaplains, one fire prevention specialist and a fire chief.

Applications are available at the Templeton Community Services District offices at 420 Crocker St., the Templeton Fire Station at 206 5th St., or online at www.templetonfd.org.

Those with questions can call 226-6724.
