Three SLO men arrested after armed robbery related to heroin deal

Victim allegedly was robbed at knifepoint after trying to buy heroin

San Luis Obispo police arrested three men after responding to a report of an armed robbery that involved a heroin purchase on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident began when police got a 911 call just after 1 p.m. from a man reporting that he was robbed at knife point in front of a house in the 1900 block of Henry Street in San Luis Obispo, according to a police news release.

The caller said the suspect ran into a nearby apartment after the robbery. When police responded, the people inside the apartment escaped out a window and a door but were caught and detained by the officers.

Investigators determined that the victim had actually gone to the apartment to try to buy heroin before allegedly being robbed at knifepoint, according to the release. The victim was not injured.

Officers obtained a search warrant and found evidence of drug use and the knife believed to be from the robbery, the release said.

Police arrested Fabian Medina, 25, on suspicion of armed robbery, brandishing a knife and a parole violation; John Torres, 46, for an outstanding parole warrant after he fled from the apartment; and Chris Kiani, 25, on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and maintaining a place for illegal activity to take place.

Medina was the only suspect arrested in connection with the alleged robbery. All three men were booked into County Jail.
