Coast Union sweeps past Cuyama Valley in volleyball

Broncos are 3-2 on the season behind Itzel Saavedra, Cristina Plasencia

Special to The CambrianOctober 16, 2013

Coming into this week, the Coast Union varsity girls volleyball team had won three out of five Coast Valley League games, including a 3-0 victory over Cuyama Valley on Oct. 10. In that match (25-11, 25-18, 25-17), Xue DiMaggio had seven aces and Cristina Plasencia contributed a dozen digs and three aces.

Coach Pam Kenyon is “super proud” of the leadership shown by seniors Itzel Saavedra and Plasencia. “They are doing a great job — and junior Sage Radecki is doing a great job of leading as well. She’s quite exceptional.” Radecki, who also excels in softball, had 27 assists in the match against Cuyama Valley.

The next home match for the Lady Broncos is Thursday, Oct. 17, against Shandon. The JV match is at 4 p.m., and the varsity plays at 5 p.m.
