Hay-bale maze delights kids at Jack Creek Farms

Hordes of first-grade students from Atascadero’s San Gabriel Elementary School enjoyed some outdoor time Friday dashing through the fall hay-bale maze now up at Jack Creek Farms in Templeton.

The maze, designed two hay bales high for little kids, celebrates the farm’s harvest instead of Halloween.

“This year, it’s bugs and butterflies and bees because it’s a toddler maze,” farm owner Joy Barlogio said. “Our emphasis is more on the harvest at the farm and not witches and skeletons.”

It took about 400 bales of straw to create the maze this year, doubling its size from last year, she added.
