Nipomo High’s girls cross country team won the Los Padres League’s midseason meet in Santa Maria on Wednesday.
Defending league champion Kyra Meko placed first at 18 minutes, 52 seconds over the 5K course, and teammate Gracie Albano was second in 19:11. The girls’ team was undefeated, finishing 6-0 in dual meet scoring.
The Nipomo boys finished last at 0-6. They were led by sophomore Rogelio Flores, who came in at 17:06.
Morro Bay’s boys’ team finished 5-1, led by Austin Lay, who finished at 15:57 and won the race. Teammate Andrew Stafford placed third at 16:25.
The Morro Bay girls’ team was 2-4, topped by the 19:40 third-place time of Shannon McClish. Madeline Ogle came in at 19:45 and placed fourth.
Mission Prep runs to win over Coast Union
Mission Prep won a boys road cross country meet against Coast Union 25-31.
Coast Union’s Jez Lawson placed first in the boys’
2.6-mile race with a 14:10 time, Mission Prep’s Tobin Shea was second at 14:24, Coast Union’s Auggie Johnson was third with a 14:46 mark, and the Royals’ Sam Oeser came in fourth at 14:56.
In the girls meet, Mission Prep had the only complete team.
That race was won by Mission Prep’s Alyssa Caldera in 15:59 time, and teammate Jacqueline San Jule was second, posting a 16:02 mark.
Coast Union’s Gigi Stoothoff, the Broncos’ fastest runner, came in eighth at 18:14.
