Coast Union cross-country team turns in strong showing

Jez Lawson leads freshman-sophomore group with 14th-place finish at Atascadero

The Coast Union cross-country team “ran great” Saturday in the small school category at the Atascadero Invitational, according to coach Jim Hurley.

The invitational (5K competition) brought together all the high schools in San Luis Obispo County, in addition to some visiting from the San Joaquin Valley.

For the Broncos’ boys freshman and sophomore group:

  • Jez Lawson placed 14th with a time of 19 minutes, 53 seconds.
  • Auggie Johnson came in 18th (20:07).
  • Nick Roper placed 27th (20:49).
  • Jose Ramirez was 47th (22:27).
  • Zander Stoothoff placed 29th in the junior varsity division (32:14).

In the girls junior varsity group:

  • Fabby Gonzales placed 27th (25:52).
  • Tara Covell crossed the finish line 31st (26:25).
