Cal Poly plummeted out of both major Football Championship Subdivision polls Monday, falling out of the rankings after suffering a 24-10 upset loss to visiting Yale on Saturday.
The Mustangs (2-3) had been ranked Nos. 18 and 19, respectively, in The Sports Network and coaches polls heading into the game.
It’s the first time Cal Poly has been left out of both major FCS polls since the fourth week of last season.
Cal Poly will look to improve to 2-0 in the Big Sky Conference when it hosts Weber State (1-5, 0-2) for the Mustangs’ Hall of Fame Game at 6:05 p.m. Saturday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Weber State has lost five straight since opening the season with a 50-40 home win over Stephen F. Austin on Aug. 31. The Wildcats have scored a total of only 41 points over their five-game losing streak.
Another award for Cal Poly’s Krieghoff
Cal Poly sophomore forward Elise Krieghoff was named Big West Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for the fourth time this season.
Krieghoff scored four goals last week to up her season total to 15, reclaiming the NCAA Division I national lead in total goals and goals-per-match average (1.25). Her 15 goals are tied for Cal Poly’s single-season goals record, set by Kolleen Kassis in 1992.
